For new and existing users of Beacon, this article will provide a detailed overview on how to determine if your account has been set up with a "profile" or content access defaults.

What is a user profile?
When content is added to Beacon, each document is labeled (labels) with customer-selected key tags (responses) that identify what the content is about, and in some instances, how it can be used. Examples of this include labels such as:
- Region: For which countries or regions of the world are the documents allowed to be shared
- Disease state: What indications is the content discussing
- Drug compound: What compounds are being referenced
- Role: Within the organization, who may access the content such as MSLs, HOLs, or both?
User profiles are defaults for content a user can see or access based on the responses assigned to their user account.

Where can I find my default profile?
1. Once you log into Beacon, click on your user icon in the upper right corner
- In this example TO is the user icon
2. Once expanded, you will see your default settings listed under the section 'My profile'
- In this example, 2 regions of Global and US are assigned
- If you do not see any information listed, you will have access to the entire library of content

3 levels of content control
There are 3 levels of restrictions that can be applied to a user profile:
-
No restrictions: Access to all content
-
Default profile: Content in your library is first filtered based on your user profile defaults. You can remove one or more of your default filters to access content outside of your defaults.
-
Restricted profile: Content in your library will only contain content that meets your user profile defaults. You will not be able to see or access any other content.

How does my profile impact search capabilities?
Based on your content control level setting, when you are searching for content, Beacon will return documents meeting your criteria as follows:
- No restrictions: Searches across all published documents and returns those meeting the search criteria
- Default profile: Searches across all published documents and returns those meeting the search criteria
- Restricted profile: Searches across all published documents meeting your default profile and returns those meeting the search criteria. You will not be able to return or access any other content.

How does my profile impact filtering capabilities?
Based on your content control level setting, you may or may not be able to add additional filters.
- No restrictions: You will be able to add and remove filters as needed and be allowed to select from any label or responses
- Default profile: You will be able to add and remove filters as needed and be allowed to select responses outside of your defaults
- In the example below, you will see that the defaults for the TO profile are selected and the user may select additional countries or regions as required
- Restricted profile: You will be able to add and remove filters as needed however you will not be allowed to select responses outside of your defaults for any label for which you have restrictions.
- In the example below, you will see that the defaults for the TO profile are selected for region and the user may only adjust per their profile
